How often should you post on Instagram? A pacing guide for businesses
How many posts, Reels and stories a week? How to choose the right posting pace for your business goal and the time you can actually spare.

The right frequency is the highest consistent pace you can sustain. For most businesses, 3–5 posts a week is a good start; those who want followers raise the share of Reels, and the pace is temporarily increased during campaign periods.
There is no single right answer to "Should I post every day?" What really makes the difference on Instagram is not the number of posts but consistency. An account that posts every day for three weeks and then goes silent for a month falls behind one that posts three times a week without fail.
Set your capacity first, then your goal
When choosing your pace, answer two questions honestly: How many pieces of content can I really prepare each week, and what do I want in this period? Staying visible, gaining followers and campaign sales each call for a different pace.
- Staying visible: 3 posts a week, on set days. For beginners and businesses short on time.
- Balanced growth: 4–5 posts a week, mostly value content, with promotion in between.
- Gaining followers: one post every day, about half of them Reels.
- Campaigns and launches: two posts a day for a short period, with plenty of stories.
Each format has its own job
Posts, stories and Reels don't do the same work. Building your mix around their roles helps more than raising the count.
- Reels: The strongest way to reach people who don't follow you. If you're after a new audience, their share should be high.
- Post (single or carousel): Your profile's shop window; lasting content that gets saved and shared.
- Story: A conversation with your existing followers. Ideal for polls, questions and behind-the-scenes; because it disappears in 24 hours, it can be used more often.
Posting days and times
General "best time" lists give you a starting idea, but your audience may behave differently. In the first weeks, try midday and evening, then shift toward the times when engagement is concentrated in your own insights. If you post three times a week, space the days out (e.g. Monday, Wednesday, Friday) so your account looks alive all week.
Signs you've picked the wrong pace
- Posts are left to the last minute and quality is dropping: the pace is above your capacity.
- Follower count isn't growing but the engagement rate is good: try raising the share of Reels.
- Unfollows are rising: the share of promotional content may be too high; add more value content.
